I’ve been in youth ministry for over 30 years and I’ve never seen a time like this - where so many of our children and young people are struggling with their minds: social anxiety, school refusal, OCD, depression, disordered eating, self-harm and more.
This is a ten-week Bible teaching course designed to help build strong minds, looking at issues like fear, disappointment, perfectionism, identity, embarrassment, comparison, isolation, purpose, and lots more. This series aims to draw out Bible principles that change the way we think about ourselves, other people and the world around us. The 10 sessions are: 1. Transformed minds 2. What are these feelings? 3. Who am I? 4. What if I'm never famous? 5. Living with our past 6. Living in the present 7. When it all gets too much 8. Friendships and fall outs 9. Alone in the world? 10. Keeping going to the end The zip file includes: 1. A 24-page teaching booklet with two pages of notes per session, including key Bible verses, theme, teaching to draw out of them and apply, ideas, songs, memory verse and an activity to do during the week. 2. A 28-page participant's booklet with space for notes each session, key passages with study questions to ask, memory verse and a weekly challenge to complete. There are also two pages of Bible verses to help in particular situations
3. A Powerpoint template for the series 4. Publicity examples with resources for fliers, Powerpoints and Instagram. This was written by Dave Thornton, author of Raising the Bar: Nearly Everything You Need to Know about Christian Youth Ministry. I am a youth worker and not a medical professional. As I say in the material: "So we cry out to God for a miracle of healing our minds, but we use the best medical advice we can too. The course was tested at Dave’s home church - Christ Church, Winchester, UK - with both our younger youth (11- to 14-year-olds) and older youth (14- to 18-year-olds).
